Spring Blooms and Pet Safety

Spring has sprung!

With flowers starting to bloom in our gardens and hiking areas, it is important to familiarize yourself with plants that pose a danger to your pets.

Poisonous plants to cats and dogs include:

  • Amaryllis

  • Azalia

  • Belladonna

  • Blue-green algae

  • Caladium

  • Daffodil

  • Diffenbachia

  • Elephant Ears

  • English Ivy

  • Foxglove

  • Gladiolas

  • Hyacinth

  • Hydrangea

  • Iris

  • Lillies

  • Lily of the Valley

  • Lupine

  • Milkweed

  • Mountain Laurel

  • Oleander

  • Philodendron

  • Among many others!

ASPCA is a great resource if your pet has ingested any plants to see the possible toxicity.

Signs of Toxic ingestion include:

  • Vomiting

  • Diarrhea

  • Lethargy

  • Respiratory Distress

  • Seizures

  • Incoordination

If you believe your pet has been exposed to a toxic plant or other poison, we recommend calling the ASPCA Poison Control Center at 888-426-4435. Be sure to document your case number so we can call them for reference as well to ensure your pet’s health, safety and recovery.
